I have a mess of a quarter here and while parts look like Cuds, how many Cuds are possible on any coin?

The front, to me, looks like Cuds. The problem is, on the back - you see the rim exposed... so could someone do this to a coin? Can you help me (yet again tyty) to understand what did/may have happened to this coin?

Thanks!!

If you think you can duplicate this coin by hitting it with a hammer then it is probably just a damaged coin.

So could it be mint damage?

No, I could not replicate this with a hammer. I've gone through a few thousand quarters this month and have seen apparent hammered/run over/damaged items.

On a quarter, could someone actually melt a quarter to make it appear this way?

The closest image I could find was this:

The 2nd picture here - http://cuds-on-coins.com/ - sort of explains how the edge could have gotten that way I guess?

By the way, what I mean by 'mess' of a quarter is just the overall condition without the issues I'm asking about.

Sorry about that.

No, sorry, this kind of damage didn't happen at the mint during the strike.
This is just severe damage. did it happen at the mint? who know It could have happened in a parking lot somewhere . in the end, it is just damaged and not a mint error.
