Found this beauty at a memorabilia auction being sold as a token. Weighs 3.1 though and looks great. Strike through on the E of ONE. 45 degree Rotated reverse. Sending to PCGS me thinks. Sorry in advance for the pictures, I never get good ones but I keep trying.

This coin appears to be a replica.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

Not genuine. Easiest way to tell - it has the "Bold N" reverse, which was not used until 1870.

The coin does have an odd look about it, like a cameo effect of wear. I don't see anything that says replica. The rotation is not listed on the rotateddies.50webs.com page, but there are a lot not listed there yet. Strong N does suggest a fake coin, and Rick Snow's book states that 1867 has a bunch of deceiving fakes out there.

This is as fake as it gets.

A genuine 1867 with a Bold N reverse simply does not exist.

I lost more than my fair share when I started. You learn and then come back and win! While this coin is definitely a fake, make it a learning experience. Not money wasted if you learn from it. I would highly suggest buying a guide like Rick Snows if you are going to collect Indian Head cents. That book as saved me more than once from a bad purchase!

I paid token price for it so not a big deal.
Thanks for all the great advice.

There's nothing to check at the Anacs booth.
This is a fake.

If it is a counterfeit and not a novelty ANACS will turn it over to the Secret Service as I understand the info on their site.

Get somebody with punches and stamp COPY on it in the right font size and it's perfectly legal. Not sure why you'd want ANACS to look at it though.

kwork - if you let ANACS check this out, they'll confiscate it. That's actually not a bad thing - turn over the original auction house to the secret service. Maybe they'll stop importing illegal Chinese counterfeits.
