Does anyone know the pedigree of that coin?

Yeah, that Lincoln is insane. Hard to imagine an early Lincoln with little or no contact marks and a strike like that.

It may look like more detail because it is a DDO? Take a look at the eye. Twice as much detail? It is a beautiful coin!!!

Interestingly the humble Lincoln Cent has been redesigned many times over the years and it's pretty much come full circle. Today's Lincoln isn't anything like the Lincoln Cent of the early 1960's. In fact, I say "full circle" because the early Matte Proofs look alot like the detail in todays circulation strikes. Funny that this is the "finest known Lincoln" at MS-69, or is this actually the finest known early Lincoln? I would think that there would be several "MS-70" Lincolns produced by now. (at least by NCS! lol) ~ Jim

Its the finest know Wheat cent. So the best grade from 1909 - 1958 out there.

BadThad,
Do you have any pics of your Lincoln wheats that have nice detail in the beard (early die states)? All of my uncirculated cents have smooth beards.

Here's a picture at Bowers & Merena auction of a 1913 Matte Proof which has less details. Note that the uncirculated 1919 seems to have more detail in the beard. This tread is starting to get interesting, as I don't remember seeing that much detail in any of the early Lincoln's I've had. ( ok, no MS-69 wonder coins) ~ Jimhttps://secure.bowersandmerena.com/...443064ol.jpg

BadThad,
SWEET! I just KNEW you would have at least a couple wheats with amazing detail. That 1915-D has some nice toning to boot! Very nice coins, thanks for posting.
