Hello CCF friends, I came across this Antietam half on ebay today, and I'm quite interested. Of all of the 50 classic commems, a circulated Antietam and Gettysburg are the ones I want the most of all. Of course, being late '30s issues, they're tough to find circulated. So when I saw this one, wow. https://www.ebay.com/itm/134774618295The reverse is obviously circulated, which is great. However, both sides have some strange green residue. Could that be PVC damage? What do you all think of the coin?

Overall, I like the piece. That could be PVC residue, or just a light accumulation of misc. crud. A leisurely soak in acetone might do wonders--if the coin was in-hand, of course.

Looks good to me. I see an authentic F20/VF25 range coin. Tough classic silver commemorative to obtain in this honestly circulated state. I don't see any surface problems that would cause me to shy away. If the coin is in your price range, go for it! Here is my PCGS VF35 Antietam for comparison:

Pleased to let you all know I bought it!! Made an offer of $415, which is IMO a great price for any problem-free Antietam, and they took it!
My first late-'30s, truly difficult circ commem, and it's an Antietam to boot! Can't wait to get it and post new pics!

Congratulations! This is a difficult to obtain circulated classic silver commemorative. I paid $600 for mine in 2013, so I say you did well on the price. Looking forward to your photos once you have the coin in hand.

Congrats!
As ijn1944 noted above, the greenish hue of the coin could point to PVC issues. I would suggest a close inspection when you receive it and consider ijn1944's suggestion of an acetone soak if you believe PVC is at play.

She's here!!!! The green tint is a bit less noticable in hand. One thing I wonder about is that the obverse looks less circulated than the reverse. But overall I think I am keeping it!
