Yes, post-strike damage--likely of a mechanical mature, such as a rotary vending machine or 'old school' roll crimping device.

I agree it is some form of Post Strike Damage.

The circular nature (head to the bust) does look like a paper roll crimping machine.
Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups.

Gum ball, slot, coin wrapper or any type of machinery that accepts coins. As it is injected "usually by turning a mechanism" it scrapes that mechanism and creates those types of marks.
