81 D penny. The obverse side is really dark color and has a nice shine.

This is a 95% copper coin, and after leaving the mint these coins are exposed to many things leading to many different minor color variants, especially our skin oils toning the surface to varying degrees. Yours has most of the original mint luster and looks lightly circulated.

From what I know, "missing obverse planchet" is a strange term that is a new one on me

LacyF,

Best to post full coin pic obverse and reverse with one or two close ups. Also, please work on taking/posting better quality photos. The better the photos you post the better we can help you.

It's toning from being circulated.

Your coin is just toning but it looks like it is in nice condition with a strong strike. I would keep it in a 2x2, if you do not have 2x2 then keep it from getting a scratch on it with no more finger prints for prints will stay on coins. It only cost you 1 cent to hold onto it.

missing obverse planchet? The object that a coin is struck on is called a planchet - the whole thing. Once it is struck, is is called a coin, medal or token
