The Ukrainian Club across the street from where I live, serves beetroot-based borscht every weekend. I'm told, by friends who've been to Ukraine, that it's something of a national dish there.

The borscht popular in some parts of the United States came to America via Jews and Mennonites who had emigrated from what is now Ukraine.

Actually a nice looking coin, if a bit pricey. But no borscht for me - beets taste like dirt!

Borscht is a very popular dish in Eastern European countries. This is a pretty tasty dish (yes, the red color is its distinguishing feature). Last year it was recognized as the intangible cultural heritage of Ukraine, but I'm not sure that this dish was first invented on the territory of Ukraine. In any case, you are obliged to try these dishes if you go to countries such as Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and other Eastern European countries. There are many immigrants from the former USSR countries in the USA and many restaurants with Russian cuisine, so I think there is definitely an institution in your city where you can taste this wonderful dish. As far as I know, Americans do not cook soups at all. (the link does not open) I looked at the prices from dealers on the Internet, they ask for $ 30 for copper-nickel coins, and yet the participants are right, it's expensive, similar coins can be purchased for $ 10-15 or even cheaper, but the coin looks nice.

Beets are good for removing toxins from the liver.
