What's the weight? I'm thinking foldover struck through Rim Fin or something like that.

we see that from time to time, I've never been clear about the process by which it occurs

It's 5.01g. Some parts appear raised and have the appearance of peeling. I reviewed https://www.error-ref.com/ and the best I could come up with is delamination crack. It fits the description very well. It is not a magician coin, nor an attempt to tamper with, and not PMD. The delam/crack is irregular and flakey with jagged edges and almost goes around the entire circumference of the obverse, some portions closer to the rim. Hope this helps you help me. Thanks

a Rim Fin folded over is sometimes mentioned I've had trouble envisioning how a Rim Fin would take on the shape of the devices. Is the fin suppoed to be thin, sort of like alumnium foil? In that case, I could see the foil being beaten into the coin via circulation.

with the amount of pressure needed and used to strike these nickels, I can see it being a fold over Rim Fin.

For discussion and learning, the rim is normal and not distorted. The cracks are confined to the field adjacent or approaching the rim. There is at least 3 locations of missing metal. IMHO I don't see/understand how this could possibly be a struck over folded Rim Fin. Is the thinking a Rim Fin existed pre-strike, it somehow got folded over, then the strike occurred? Would the fin be inconsistently not fully the entire circumference of the planchet? I'm just trying to imagine/understand the process. Thanks for pitching in with your knowledge and thoughts.

I think the Rim Fin gets folded over during counting/wrapping or in circulation...if that is what it is. John1
