NGC finally got around to shipping out the coin and posting the grades.

Original thread on the conservation of this dirt find here:

Have my data point - it was worth the spend and I'm still thrilled with the final results. Highly unlikely that any dirt find copper will ever straight grade.

They were spot on with this one, didn't think this coin had a chance to straight grade, good for NGC.

Agreed, it is what I expected. It was my test coin.

But something interesting that I had never seen before popped up on my NGC download page - I think it adds relevance to their ED call. It also adds credibility to those who claim NGC (and maybe PCGS) slabs are not as "air tight" as they might claim.

Copper Coins Notice: Coins made of copper, bronze, brass or are copper-plated can change over time. Accordingly, with regard to copper, bronze, brass or copper-plated coins graded by NGC, the grade portion will no longer apply after the 10 year anniversary of their date of encapsulation by NGC. This coin was encapsulated on 10/25/2023 and the grade guarantee will expire on 10/25/2033. If the grade guarantee has not expired, it may be extended by submitting the coin under NGC's ReHolder service tier. If the grade guarantee has expired, the coin will be treated as a raw (ungraded) submission if resubmitted to NGC.

Congrats on the grade and on your conservation work. Not often that a ground find will turn out to be uncirculated!

I wouldn't have even considered spending money grading this.

Ya but as I specifically called out in the original thread, I have no interest in the coin itself. My interest lied in determining whether my conservation work of ground find copper coins could ever straight grade. This coin was by far the best outcome I had to date and spending $37 bucks to have a data point that tells me NEVER to send in a ground find copper conservation saves me time and money moving forward.

No offense intended, but I don't see how a single coin could be a benchmark, especially one that is as seriously ED'd as this one.

Despite the excellent conservation work, I think most everyone expected this would come back details because of some residual corrosion. But that doesn't mean that another dug coin with no corrosion after conservation won't straight grade. It just depends on the coin.

None taken Coinfrog - just stating that I had a specific reason for submission.

Zurie - in 10+ years of digging coppers and silvers out of the ground, not one copper has conserved as well as this IHC. I'm pretty confident that no copper would ever straight (with the exception of the ones in that 200 year old coin jar that I plan on finding one day :-)

Silvers are an entirely different story. Just had a 1919-D SLQ dirt find straight grade - I have no issue sending in relevant silvers.
