Bought this coin, along with a couple more, for my son- he will be 18 next week and was born in 1991 so I thought 1891 to be appropriate. I picked up one 91-O, one 91-P , and one 91-CC. He will be getting the P and CC- but this one is staying with me !

After getting home and attributing the coins, I figured this one to be a VAM 3A2. The only thing missing is the reverse die breaks, but the obverse break pattern on the 3A2 matches. What do you all think ?
All opinions appreciated !

II, typo ? Looks to be either 3A or 3A1, which are the same coin if I'm reading my paper work right. The die break on the O of ONE has to be there for the 3A2 designation. Any coin with the clashed is a keeper though. Nice pick up.

Sorry, but it's not a 3A2, Morgans right about the O break.

The only reason I went for 3A2 is that there were no pics or mention of Obv die cracks until 3A2. The 3A and 3A1 had no full Obv pics. The Rev crack is just forming between the star and the O of ONE on this coin...I guess 3A1 it is ! Either way, it is a VAM with a very nice premium and I am happy I got it for 17 bucks.

$17?

Do you have any idea what these are going for?

Well Super Dave...I did see the history at the bottom...and I did get a nice adrenaline rush when I saw that the AU's were going for just North of 1000 bucks I think. I had no idea that this coin was a 3A1 when I bought it, just that it was the only 91-O at the shop besides a 200 dollar MS-63. Paid XF greysheet for it. I guess I figure this coin may take a run at my Donkey Tail, or the Field Break Peace dollar as the King of my Cherry Picks thus far. Problem is...I can only get 500 bucks for it IF I SELL it...and I hate to sell my coins ! So, for now, it is a 17 dollar coin in my collection.

I am fortunate that the shop I work for rarely separates any specific VAM's - the volume they do prohibits alot of post-buy searching . Any that are listed on the greysheet are pulled (or RedBook varieties ) such as O/S , O/CC , 80/79's , etc. and the customer is paid more for those coins. I don't know that we have any other collectors that look for specific VAM's - for now I am safe in my endeavor.
