Good evening,

I have a 2006-D quarter. If you look at the 2 photos below, you can see how the mint mark is clear as day on one quarter and barely visible on the other one (the 2006).

I feel dumb asking this, but did all 2006 quarters have mint marks because I know older ones sometimes do not have the P but I've never heard of a D not being there.

When I first looked, I didn't think it had a mark at all until I put it under the scope and moved it around. As usual, I'm looking to find out how this happens if anyone knows. Is this a light strike and if so, would it affect the entire quarter or is it possible to just affect one area?

Thanks.

The reason I didn't show it that way is because you can make out the mint mark from the top on the camera, but not well with the naked eye. Like I said, I thought it had no mint mark at all.

I don't have another D coin, I'm just showing what a normal mint mark looks like (or trying to) on any given coin compared to the one I'm asking about.

Thank you.

That is okay, it is just because grease was on the die when it was struck. Sometimes many letters or words are missing for same reason. There is little to no value for one item to be missing, more value if more is missing.

Grease. That's what I needed to know. I'm not looking for value... just learning what's what. Thanks.
