Demand Exceeds $1 Supply By Numismatic NewsApril 02, 2009 Other News & Articles G20 Supports IMF's Plan to Sell 403 Tons of Gold King of Dollars in Sale Counterfeiters and Authenticators Do Battle Collectors overshot the 450,000 mintage ceiling in their zeal to purchase the Abraham Lincoln commemorative silver dollar before it sold out. As of March 29, they had ordered 329,821 proof and 135,793 uncirculated pieces. The Mint stopped taking orders for the uncirculated coin and was taking orders only on a provisional basis for proofs. Would-be proof buyers at that point were basically getting first dibs on any coins that are freed up if earlier sales fail to go through. The combined total of 465,614 actually exceeds the ceiling. In prior programs in similar circumstances the totals are whittled down to the specified ceiling. On April 1 the Mint did just that, changing the totals to 325,000 and 125,000. Another 50,000 proofs are expected to go into special sets later this year with the new cent designs. Hope I Transferred this article OK

Thanks for sharing. I will be interested to see what the premium placed on the uncirculated pieces becomes (if any).

Somehow the "waiting list" that they say you can get on for the Proof seems VERY doubtful that you'd ever receive one due to a "cancellation". That really seems like a worthless endeavor and they should just say "sold out" rather than give hope that you can still get one !

I am interested in seeing how much these are selling for at the next coin show, if they are even available there.

I'm not aware of anyone on CCF even having any of the "two roll Lincoln Sets" yet ........still waitin' fer' the "shipping" to take place !.... .... ...... There seems to be more than a few with success getting BU rolls from their banks however.....but none that I'm aware have their "two roll Set" as of yet.

The 2001 Commemorative Buffalo Silver Dollar (another quick sellout) is almost $200 'ask' in either form (Unc.,Proof), so I don't think the Lincoln Dollar has 'peaked' yet.... Ya gotta love how the LP1 Lincoln Cent Mint Rolls are being 'sold' (actually, presold) on ebay when no private owners as yet have received them in hand! (Me, too; ordered them 2-13 @ 12:01 PM EST, nothing yet...)

Just to be clear, Is there anyone who even knows anyone who did receive these rolls from the U S Mint.... My order was pending at my bank, then just disappeared, the My account at the U S Mint says, "order being processed........" Mr Ed Moy, should be expelled and a collector needs to be placed in this capacity, to actually be sympathetic to this great hobby......

Eaglefoot, I received my 5-sets from the U S Mint a few days ago, the wrappers are sweet, I do not think I will open the rolls. I also ( in fear of not receiving the bank rolls) went to ebay and won a bid for a box of the 2009's, I opened 1 roll, they are beautiful but I feel the mint is rushing these coins out and the bag marks prove it, still in all, very nice....

......I'm sooo jealous !.....And yeah.... the very reason for paying more for the wrapper, is one of the reasons I won't open mine either !....but that's why I'm waiting with anticipation on when they start arriving in circulation around here !... Nobody really knows what the value will be in 40 years for these two roll Sets.....or 80 years as collections get inherited to other generations in the family. But regardless, these U.S. Mint wrapped rolls are and will be "collectible" in every way, IMNSHO. (in my not so humble opinion) ...Doesn't matter to me if, in 40 years they're worth $20.00 or $120.00.....still very collectible ! Congrats on scoring a box from ebay too.....
