Hi! Headed Toronto for a long weekend for work event. As is typical for me, I'll probably hit up some local shops. Any recommendations? Also, I may head to a small coin show while there (weather pending). Any been to this one? https://canadiancoinnews.com/event/...amp-show-10/On a related note, would US currency be accepted at either shop or show? Or will I have to exchange some USD for CAN? thanks!

You will be better off exchanging your money at a bank in the US or Canada, What ever the rate is at the time, say 38% add 3 or 4 % for the bank. If you try it at a show it will be down around 20% if you are lucky.

drdn what do you collect? If it's just U.S. coins/paper, then you will probably be disappointed by the selection from the show or shop. I know the show will have a lot of Polish coins.

I do collect mostly US but I like world and am always excited to look at new coins of all type. Sounds like it might be a nice departure from the regular shows I go to in the US.

drdn If you go to the Mississauga Coin & Stamp Show (locally referred to as the "Polish Show" ) be sure to take advantage of the Polish food offerings in the community centre where the show takes place. Paczki (Polish plum donuts)!!!

The "offficial" Canada/US rate is 1.356. Banks will take at least 3%, so you will be lucky to get a little over $1.30. 1.333 is a good conversion to remember because it's 4/3 or 3/4 depending on which way you go. A $200 Canadian coin would be $1.50US.

at 3% change, I might as well try and charge things and eat the cost at that end.
Speaking of eating, I am now super excited from some Polish food if I make to that show!

If you use a US credit card and have it charged in US dollars, you will get the "official" international exchange rate. You won't get 3% from the bank or a dealer. If you are a regular bank customer, you get the more favorable exchange rate, but it's a little bit higher than 3%.

It's a good show.
Exchange your US $$ at a bank.
Bear in mind, our shows pale in comparison to US shows.
Keep an open mind and a thick wallet and you should have fun.......and yes, do try the donuts!!

I ended up going to the "Polish Show" for a few hours in morning before I had to head out. Nice mix of world/canada/ancient/us coins. As one might imagine not a small amount of Polish coins/medals/exonumia. I wasn't planning on picking up any Canadian so was mostly focused on world offerings and there were definitely some nice finds to be had. US was present but thin offerings (and over-priced IMO). Here are my two pick-ups: 1928 Ireland PR64 1/2 Crown AND more importantly...

After seeing your picture of those delicious doughnuts, I really regret not going to this show.
