have not bought lots the last few years but my tea leaves told me to get in on the action and ordered a 50 cent roll as well as the other first strike King Charles rolls from gate west....better late than never I guess.

I'm curious how GateWest is able to still take orders on the 'First Strikes" set, when everyone else - including the Mint, seem to be sold out? I ordered from GW way back in November, and still surprised to see them still taking orders.

Quote:They probably preordered a wack of rolls, they are a huge RCM distributor I hope you're right. The last time I remember GW doing something like this was when the 5oz Avro Arrow came out a couple years back. They were still taking orders while it was sold out everywhere else. I got burned on that one.

GW has them available to purchase in-store today, which strikes me as odd since they aren't available in the Winnipeg Mint Boutique until next Wednesday. Also seems strange that the online order of First Strike rolls I made at GW on Dec 27 shipped today, but the order I made from the mint on Nov 14 hasn't shipped yet. Is it normal that a dealer would have it and mail it before the Mint itself?

They didn't charge my credit card I noticed so maybe I ain't getting anything?....lol
I find that odd however it's my first time ordering from GW as it was the only place I could seem to find the rolls Available for issue price.

I ordered on Nov 14, and my card was charged Nov 16. Check your statement again in a day or two. 2 of the 4 items I ordered don't seem to be in yet, so I'll have to sit on my hands waiting to get my whole batch.

^^^^Thanks mikem ....November 14th until now is abit of a wait :) and I'm sure your chomping at the bit to get your stuff...I'm usually more on top of coin releases except In the fall because I'm busy hunting and everything else gets set aside.
I'll be happy to get my rolls as I'm sure they will do good especially for my great grandkids as they should be worth something in many years from now.

Quote: Is it normal that a dealer would have it and mail it before the Mint itself? Dealers get to order several weeks before the official release date, so they usually have stock available to ship out on official release day. Dealers are sent brochures in advance. They can pick and choose what coins to order. They get a discount of 10-15% per coin/set. Big dealers like Gatewest may get bigger discounts.

I picked up two of the 50 cent rolls then noticed King Charles on both openings of the rolls.
Are they more, or less desirable than having the obverse and reverse showing?

Probably more desirable because they may be 2023 coins (first year)--although you won't know in present form, unless ordered from the mint as 2023. Just my fifty cents.

I haven't ordered much lately from the mint but decided to order a couple $50 cent rolls and the first strike collection. Thinking there won't be as many 2023's around in the years to come and they might be a nice addition to my collection.
