But in this case, only 15-minutes into my outing. Happily headed back home after digging this spill. Ughhh, hit the Peace with my shovel. Peace, Walking, WA qtr, 3 WarNicks, 2 Mercs, and 9 wheats.

Sadest part - and it just figures - the Peace was high AU until I took my shovel to it.

True that Hondo - at least it wasn't a 1921. 1922 so variety check in order after reclamation.

Maybe try a plastic shovel? Although even that would scratch the toning on a coin.

I typically dig a wide plug to avoid this exact scenario. Did it once before many years ago and ever since, I proceed cautiously - these were just spread out. I'm afraid plastic would break too easily.
