This piece is 25mm at its widest and weighs .147 ounces (4.19 grams). It is shaped like a shallow bowl. I think it is gold. Any ID suggestions appreciated! Thanks in advance.

@joe, that looks like a Byzantine Hyperion to me. It might be mid-14th Century, like this one:

Thanks much Spence!

Very similar but there are differences.

I found what I think it is the same one (with the info you sent) on Numista.
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces287016.html

On the obverse there is a letter K. On the Numita one there are three dots over the K. On mine there is a star over the K.

With star.

The scale of the images appears different as well. Any thoughts on what the star may mean?

Yours looks like this one https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=11554696

"ANDRONICUS II PALAEOLOGUS with MICHAEL IX (1282-1328). GOLD Hyperpyron. Constantinople.
Obv: Bust of the Virgin orans within city walls with four groups of towers; sigla: (star/K) | (star/N).
Rev: Andronicus and Michael kneeling to left and right of Christ standing facing and crowning both of them.
Sear 2396; PCPC 128, sigla 186"

Regards,
Derek

Thanks Derek/Valecrucis - I think you got it.

The site you and Spence used is new to me. Are you using the image search?

No, I'm not even sure what that image search function is. On my mobile the link doesn't seem to show anything usable

No, not me either. Acsearch is one of my go-to websites for this sort of thing. My keyword search was just the denomination (Hyperpyron).
