It's a nice Off Center Cent, but you definitely paid way too much for it.

@mur, others will weigh in, but I think that generally speaking, US off-center coins that have the date on them sell for higher premiums than those where the date is off the flan (like yours).
Still, this is a fun error to own--just make sure that you protect it from humidity well as there is exposed zinc.

What would have been a good Price?I picked it up because I thought it was a very curious and interesting piece for my United States currency collection. Good information about the date, I will take it into account, although it will be very rare for them to offer me something like that in person again

Nice off-center strike. This coin should have had a date of 1982 or newer. (This is a zinc cent)

Return it for a refund if you can. You paid way too much. If you have access to ebay, check their sold prices for off center cents. Some sold for around $10-$20 US dollars without a date.

Off center coins are neat to come across. For some reason in 1999 the US mint had a lot of these come of the assembly line. (FWIW- Off Center coins with the date visible are more desirable to me.)

Glad you were able to get a refund. That price was about 10x too high.

Quote: I finally talked to my friend and returned the coin...It's very cool but too expensive, thanks for your answers!!! An off center coin is one of the most common and best known types of errors but are really cool to come across and great for a collection. These were my favorite coins growing up, and only later learned things like when the date is showing it has more value. The value also generally depends on the denomination and the condition its in. Here is a basic price guide to give you an idea: https://varietyerrors.com/coin-pric...price-guide/Its good you were able to return it as that particular one was not worth that amount, but others as you see can be and maybe will spark the collector in you to find or get others in the future and start up a collection. Error coins as I said are my favorites. Happy hunting.
