Hello, I am not a collector but I recently acquired a collection of coins, a large portion of the collection is rolled pennies. These all look to be uncirculated and from 1976-1983. Some are bicentennial. I opened one of the rolls and found some discoloration and what might be carbon spotting? I am not sure how well the picture shows this. Do you have any advice on how I should proceed? Do any of these have more than face value?

@cct, first welcome to CCF. Second, others will be around soon enough to talk about looking for specific mint errors or varieties. Depending on your level of interest and commitment though, you might separate out any wheat cents and just spend the rest. Circulated, common-date wheat cents will get you 3 - 5 cents. Some dramatic errors and varieties also carry a premium, but otherwise this all is likely to be worth face value.

Of these rolls, I see two that are potentially customer-wrapped. All of the others are bank-wrapped, so they'll most likely be single years. What's on the ends will tell you what the other 48 are. Check those for valuable varieties. If none on the ends, list them on ebay. Except for the two in brown wrappers which I'd bust open.

To CCF! I agree with the above. Here are 2 websites you can use to learn about errors and varieties, if you want to search them. www.error-ref.com www.doubleddie.com
Errers and Varietys.

to the CCF Quote: and from 1976-1983 Common date LMC have little numismatic premium. Perhaps if they are high MS you could sell them as a roll on ebay. However: If you have the time to learn about any significant varieties from that date range, then visit the sites E&V gave you and read and learn. Then - if you have the time to search each coin with a magnifier to try to find the perhaps varieties then you have a searching plan and go for it. Me - I would open the 2 customer wrapped rolls and deposit all the rest in my bank account.

Thank you all for your input. I took a peek in a few more of the roles. The spotting appears on all that I have looked at, so I assume that would make most of these face value. I guess they weren't stored properly. I will probably just take the to the bank as suggested. Luckily there is a lot more in the collection that is more interesting, so perhaps I have found a new hobby. Thanks!

If not a new hobby, some new friends..... we all enjoy helping each other with knowledge and insight and even some good direction every once in a while :) Those customer wrapped rolls are always the mystery and people eat that up!! Good luck with your finds. I know there are some varieties in those 1982 pennies that you want to look into, I think there is a Wide AM error that has some value if memory serves me right....

Welcome and congrats on the stash. 1983 have quite a bit going on. DDOs, DDRs, Counter clashes, Cuds, etc. (But they also have a lot of plating blisters as well.)
