Spain 50 Centimos 1880-S And After. Could Someone Explain The Catalogue's Notes To Me?

RickyO New Member Argentina 33 Posts	Posted 12/01/2023 7:09 pm Hi! Ricky Olcese here. I would like to start a type collection of Spanish 50 centimos coins. I wanted to see the Krause catalogue to know and understand more about these coins, but I found some notations I couldn't decipher! Could you help me understand what the notes below the price chart means? And also the numbers between brackets next to the dates, what do they mean? At least I did some research and found out what the initials MS-M mean, they were the initials of some officials working at the minting house. My problem is basically with the 1885/1 (86) etc. dates. Could you explain it to me and perhaps post some example in which the difference between a 1885/1 (86) coin and a 1885 (86) can be seen? Thanks! Report this Post to the Staff

january1may Pillar of the Community Russian Federation 5172 Posts	Posted 12/01/2023 7:26 pm The numbers in the brackets are in the stars, yes. 1885/1 looks like notation for an overdate - i.e. the 5 is engraved, and/or punched, over an earlier 1. I have no idea what this might look like and don't have the time to check right now, but I can try to look for some examples in the morning. Report this Post to the Staff
