Hi I'm new to this. Was sorting through my wheat pennies and this one caught my eye because the discoloration on the obverse side is in a perfectly straight line, and only half of it is discolored. Any ideas about what could cause this? I tried to look up pictures of other coins but I didn't find anything like it. Thoughts?

@wilk, first welcome to CCF. Second, while it might be just surface discoloration, I wonder if the odd speckling isn't due to an incomplete mixing of the the alloy ingredients. That would make your cent a so-called "woody". What does the reverse of this cent look like?

To CCF! I'm thinking that it might be an Improper Alloy Mix.

Why we start direct with improper mix alloy? An close pic of this part is need. Seem the texture of the metal do not fit with the rest of the coin. Never was an woody only one large line. and also the line do not has the collor of the bronze improper mixt alloy. Close pic is need.

Agree, we need a closeup and an answer to whether this stripe is flush with the surrounding fields.

At first it looked to me that one half of coin had been covered by tape or something while the rest faced the elements.
Would like a look at the reverse.
