Any thoughts on how common or not a double P is on a 2001-P 5 cent? I have not seen one before, but this is not what I focus on so me not seeing one before doesn't really mean a whole lot. Not the greatest photo of the "P" but the best I could do with what I have tonight. It is definitely doubled.

Could be Machine Doubling or Die Deterioration Doubling. Can't say for sure though, with current pictures.

Really tough to get a sharp image in a PCGS holder. This one is straight on.

This one is at about a 30 degree angle from the left.

Hi all - I posted a few additional close-ups but didn't get a response on what type of doubling this would be. If it is Machine Doubling, why are the rim beads just millimeters away unaffected? If it is Die Deterioration, is this common for the series or just a late stage die that would have been replaced soon after? Thanks for any insights - this is far from my specialty.

If it was MD, caused by the die moving incrementally on the uptake, a little more than the "plated" would be affected. I think that the die had it's first contact with the "P" and took the full impact of the presure, hence it deteriorated there rather than someplace else. I'm not an expert, but it looks like DDD to me there, but no place else.

Look at the pics here: https://doubleddie.com/144843.html
