Hello first post for me. I love collecting lincoln cents and have a question about the original mint cello packaging on the 2019w cents. Are they safe for the coins or should I remove the pennies and place them in snap lock holders. Thank you

They are safe in the sense that cello isn't PVC and won't itself damage the coins.

However, cello is not gas tight and coins will tarnish / tone in the package.

Many of these 2019-W cents had problematic splotches before they left the mint, but if you have a "clean" one, it should be okay unless stored improperly.

The cello can also scratch the coin from moving around in the packaging.

to the Community!

I removed mine and added them to my Dansco album for modern cents.

I didn't think they came in cellophane when issued. I'd move them to flips as I did mine.

Welcome to the Community!

I don't think they came in cellophane like the old 1940's and early 1950's proof sets came in. Those old proof coins were placed in little flimsy thin cellophane "cigarette packaging" sleeves and the five sleeves were then stapled together, placed in a small flimsy cardboard box with tissue paper and then shipped out with postage stamps on the shipping box. (The mint didn't use metered postage until later).

All of my W cents came in little sealed polypro bags (about the thickness of a ziplock bag) that are hopefully free of PVC. Time will tell!

But they can still slide around in that bag and get scratches/rubs.
