Judging by the volume and character of collector posts here on CCF, it would appear that enthusiasm for Canada's Numismatic Products has definitely waned. But, based on its reported Financial Results (Q3 results were released in late November), the Mint is clearly maintaining a collector base for its products. It has shown quarter-over-quarter increases in Numismatic Product sales throughout 2023.

Per its Financial Reports, the Mint attributes much of its success in the area to demand for Queen Elizabeth II coins and King Charles III coins. IMO, the results are likely to have different drivers in 2024.

Surprised?

Definitely agree, commems. I made my first purchase from the RCM this year - the Queen Elizabeth II Royal Cypher plated with rhodium. It's absolutely gorgeous. But I don't foresee further purchases from them. And once the novelty of King Charles III wears off, sales of his coins will likely drop.
By the way, I should have waited to purchase the Cypher - they're now available from 3rd parties for $15 less than from the Mint.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

No doubt much of the RCM sale increases is due increased mintages for every coin this year.

Larger maximum allowable mintage figures only produce larger sales volumes if folks buy the coins. Otherwise, they mean little.

I have no idea of proving this point, but I think that most coins in Canada or the states are not bought by collectors but by flippers. They purchase as much as they can to create a false shortage so they can jack up prices (I'm talking mainly about the many TV snake-oil salesmen).

Perhaps there are many more "lurkers" interested in Canadian numismatics than we are aware. I was a lurker for a few years before I became a member this year.
I see at the moment the ratio of lurker to members active is 10:1 on the CCF. Just a thought.

What is counted as a "lurker"? Myself, I do not login unless I have something to post, but a CCF page often stays open in my browser for a long time.

As of 2:00 pm today- Active Users:

Since that section lists members on site as well, I believe it to mean people who are not members of CCF or members who have not logged on and are viewing the site.
I stand to be corrected.
