I learned something the other day. After requesting a refund on tax I paid for 99.9% silver medals shipped from the U.S., I was informed that since they are listed as "medals" and not "bars, ingots, coins, or wafers", I would not get a refund.

There are about 40 million good reason to live in Canada , but I digress.
If the item is .999 or better silver you are entitled to get the GST
HST rebated . Provincial Tax may not be recoverable .
Please give us some pix and a detailed description of the item .

"coins, bars, ingots, or wafers" would seem to exclude silver, gold and platinum rounds (like a Sunshine Minting round). That's because it is not a "coin", it is not a "bar", it is not an "ingot" and it is not a "wafer".

However, if Canada considers a round to be a coin, then a medal of .999 purity should also be considered a coin.

coins are round
rounds are round
medals are round

What about these?

The CRA needs .999 to be on the item or you need a some type of purity cert for the CRA to exclude HST, they still will refund but you must prove the purity

We should be so proud and privileged to live in Canada as we have a King instead of a Prime Minister.

How wonderful it is to have Royalty from one's own country!!

I've noticed the past couple of months, anything passing thru Mississauga (sp) CP is attracting taxes and of course their handling fee.......
I'm talking about my ebay purchases from those sellers not in the ebay shipping service (which guarantees the taxes are collected and package's journey takes an extra week).

I no longer have them, as they were part of a larger lot and I sold them. They were from the Chase Commemorative Society. Silver rounds (.999) issued in the mid-1960's.
