I have a circulated 1954 Canadian 1 dollar bank printed with a 20 dollar colour. The note is a devil's face. Anyone seen something like this or have any information? I'm new to this forum and have many other bills and coins of interest from a family collection. Thanks for any advice :) Edited by 773106 12/17/2023 1:14 pm

I have seen a lot of bleached 1954 ONES which have had a similar olive hue of the $20 note that were put back into circulation, heavily soiled & then listed over the years on ebay. But DBM & John1 are right: we need good pictures in order to know exactly what you are referring to.

Thanks everyone and finally figured out how upload images. Thanks for all those who posted tutorials and Pixlr worked well for this.
I'm pretty sure the bill has not been altered as it comes from my grandfathers collection. There are quite a few bills/coins/stamps, etc, most are cataloged from his studies but most don't make any sense to me as I have no experience. I'm just starting my journey in understanding all that exists from his past work and am very excited to learn all the history in this fantastic collection.
Seems like a great community here to share and learn!
Regards,
Devin

When the two banknote printing companies at the time and even today uses only 2 or 3 presses to print our banknotes or stock certificates or other high security items. everytime they change colours they must have a secert cleaner to clean the plates. This is why offshaded notes are hard to prove it happened at the CBN or BABNC especially well circulated notes, but other seasoned collectors will give their opions

In that condition you will probably have a challenge convincing someone that the banknote was produced in that colour. I suppose anything is possible, but most people will suggest that it was altered in some way to try to increase the value of it. Looks to me like it would roughly grade in the F-VF range depending on how it looks and feels in hand. It's still and interesting note and worth keeping for you for the history with your grandfather.
