If I saw a Half Cent at that price - especially such an early one - I'd grab it real quick, damaged or not.
I understand that some collectors would avoid damaged coins. As far as I'm concerned, this means more coins for me

I had a low grade Large Cent whose date ended in 8. One day I decided to make a "Crazy 8s" set (1798, 1808, 1818, 1828, 1838, and 1848) without paying more than $15 for any of them (except the 1798). Mission accomplished! They may not be beautiful coins to most people, but it's MY Crazy 8 set and I like it.

you buy what you like and afford. these early coppers without any issues are not inexpensive and if it fits into what your goals are and the price is right in your mind then buy it.

we try to give the poster a fair assessment as to what we see and if you read through other posts you will see there are a lot of differencing opinions on the same coin. getting a consensus on a particular coin doesn't happen too often. review all the comments and look for common threads to get the best assessment and don't let any stop you from posting other ones thats how you increase your knowledge base to be able to make better assessments on your own going forward. many here have been collecting for decades and still learning. keep in mind though, when asking for opinions, not all of them you will like or agree with just walk past them
