You will also see rotation expressed in degrees clockwise (CW) or counterclockwise (CCW) - this is known as the die axis
A "coin" orientation would be 180 degrees either way, a "medal" orientation is 0 degrees
So if I stand a coin that was struck in "coin" orientation on its edge with the top of the obverse bust straight up (12:00 or K12) then rotate the coin around its vertical axis and see that the top of the reverse design is pointing, say, to the 3:00 position instead of the 6:00 position, that would be 90 degrees of CCW rotation; if the top of the reverse design were to be pointing at the 9:00 position instead, that would be 90 degrees of CW rotation.
