Hi I searched through a hoard that I bought from from an auction
and found a penny representing the date 1943 with D mintmark, and it's copper.
I know there is not that much of a chance for it being real, but....
Those who can explain "why" it is fake, I would appreciate it.
Thanks

One reason that I can think is, that the 4 line is different from the one I saw on Pcgs

tarraboom, have you checked to see if it's magnetic? Copper-plated steelies were sold as novelties for many years. Now, of course, "replicas" are made in China and passed off as the real thing.

Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

Yes, an accurate weight (to two decimal places) could tell us much.

Full picture of the obverse and reverse could probably help as well.

If it was a copper 43, it would weigh 3.1g. A steel would weigh 2.7g. 1g would have to be way thinner than normal.

Are know Asian reproductions. No one was magnetic, and the wheight was verry close. I think your scale it is out of calibration.

You has to post full sides of the coin photos and an comparative side with normal penny.
