Hi everyone I'm looking to get a camera and a friend of mine, who knows a little about cameras (more than me) said this might be a good one.

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/c...TechSpecsAct

The main use for this camera is to take great pictures of coins.

If this isn't a good one than what do you recomend? I want to spend less than $200 but am willing to spend up to $300 if I really have to.

Thanks for the help

G'day, Canon are a good brand. I have one of their IXUS digitals, and I'm very happy with it.
What you are looking for is:
the more optical zoom, the better - digital zoom is no use for pics of coins.
the more megapixels, the better.
But even when you get a good camera, good pics still require good lighting, and that's a real challenge.

Hi,
The fact that it's a Canon with good optics, and its macro mode can shoot at a minimum distance of 2" suggests this will work well for coins. I happen to have 6 megapixel camera which does very well for detailed coin shots.

I have that smae camera, and I am still learning to use it. I will say that the pictures I have gotten with it are awesome! Check SuperDaves posts in this section, for more info on using it, and being happy with the results.
