I supose extreme wear could account for this discrepancy

Some of it may be due to heavy circulation and some of it may be due to a rolled thin planchet.

2.98 grams was the minimum tolerance from the mint. 10% weight loss from wear would take it to 2.68. 2.55 grams could be from a thin planchet. Usual but certainly something that occurred at times.

Can't be sure from the photos but looks more like a tapered planchet than a rolled thin planchet.

Yes something is going on all pennies before 1982 wheigh 3.1gm what has me is the sound it makes with other pennies its different than a worn out coin sound is there a different between copper and bronze I'm going check that year for world coins that year at Philadelphia I need a spectrum but cost to much ill send It in to a grading service eventually but I see I'm not the only one with a low weight Wheat penny

It is always fun to pursue the possibilities, but if it looks like a tapered planchet, and sounds like a tapered planchet, well... These are pretty common overall, but yours is on the light side so a bit more desirable. I would place a value of $6-8 on one like yours, so while slabbing an error coin will increase its value a bit, I think it would be a financially losing proposition to slab your coin. If you wish to see a similar coin sell at auction, by coincidence I put up a 1955 Lincoln Cent tapered planchet, also 2.55g, on ebay last Wednesday for a 7-day auction starting at 99 cents. Different coins, but same error and weight so might give a good price guide for your coin.

This is incorrect. The U.S. Mint nominal weight for bronze cents was 3.11 grams. Many left the mint under that weight and most weigh less than that today from wear. Your weight on a well worn 1935 Wheatie is not uncommon.
