2000 D Virginia State Quarter Error Maybe

I found this quarter years back when I drove a truck and kept it in a jar as at the time I could find no one to ask anything about it. On the heads side it is exact quarter size as far as diameter. The tale side is exactly the size of a nickel it didn't appear cut that way more like stamped that way. It is a 2000 Virginia State Quarter and the mint that produced it was Denver. I would appreciate any reply as I admit I have little experience in the coin community, thanks for any and all help.

@md, first welcome to CCF. Second, that quarter has been partially ground down on the edge. We see this somewhat frequently posted here and sometimes guess that someone had fun with a belt sander. However it was done, it is mechanical damage rather than a mint error.
