I bought a fake Chinese-made counterfeit Trade dollar silver coin for my younger brother as he eyed on it and wanted me to buy it for him, it was pretty cheap (around 1 USD)

Unfortunately, he has a bad habit of licking/biting everything he gets his hands on, neither does he wash his hands before eating. I have heard that, apparently, fake Chinese-made silver coins/trade dollars often contain lead under the silver plating, is that really true?

Should I take it away from him? Just for some information, it has no magnetic properties so it has no effects with a magnet. Are there any ways I could confirm whether or not its lead or something else.

For some extra info, I bought it off aliexpress, the seller seems to be one of those that specialize in producing fake historical counterfeit coins, most of the coins there seem to be quite cheap, at around 1 dollars. The specific coin I bought was a Japanese Meiji-era 1 yen coin (3rd year/1870).

I have the link for the product but I didn't post it here as it was written that new users should refrain from posting links

Difficult to say what the metal is. It may not be silver plated, could be nickel or partially lead on the surface. I assume occasionally putting coin in mouth would not be harmful but why chance it. Obviously do not give him small coins. Any coin small enough to swallow could be a worse medical problem. When four years old I swallowed a nickel. My parents had to check my bowel movements until they saw the nickel had come out.

Good idea putting coin in capsule assuming the boy cannot open it. Some capsules are rather easy to open, but he's probably too young to figure it out.

@glass, regardless of the specific alloy, licking a coin doesn't sound very healthy to me. I'm in agreement with the @frog that your younger brother shouldn't have ready access to coins right now. Maybe pivot to stamp collecting?
