Well I believe you that it is a die chip, but with this light circulation wear, I'm wouldn't have made that determination on my own.

If indeed it is a die chip and not the result of a hit, it would still probably be too small to be attributed as a BIE. That said, if you can find a BIE from the same die that includes that area, it would be very interesting to note this as an early die stage of that BIE. Are there other die markers (obverse or reverse) which match another BIE? The MM is fairly distinctive on this coin, fairly low and with a significant CCW tilt, so matching up with a BIE from same die would be fairly easy, if such BIE exists.

That is a great point @rmp. How fun would it be to have this be "earliest die stage" die chip?

It does look like a Die Chip, a tiny one.

It is wee teeny one for sure, I would send it in to be attributed if it were mine, if you think it's worth it.

rmpsrmps , I don't believe the size of the die chip matters for the coin to be a BIE , as I've over 30+ bies attributed in COC but these one is the smallest , and I have some listed that have a small die crack in between LIBERTY that have been listed .

Tacc, yes , I'll once I figure out how to do the new size requirements for the pictures to be sent to JC , it used to be a lot easier a few years back when I got all of mine listed now to have the 350X350 and a zip file it's harder ( for me) .

This is something I would not call a BIE, but that call is far above my head. Good eye on seeing this 'die chip'

It's all a matter of judgment by the folks examining the coin. I've seen plenty of RPMs which looked significant enough to me that I sent them in for attribution, only to have them come back as "too minor to list", yet indeed they were RPMs. Perhaps JC will chime in with his opinion. If indeed this is a die chip, then technically it is indeed a BIE, but at what point is it big enough to list. Not my call. Edited to add: I have many rolls of coins that I consider "Pre-BIE" die chips and breaks. I set aside such coins when I do my BU roll searches. If this is as far as the BIE goes, they'll always remain "Pre-BIE" IMO. But if they eventually break out into a more major chip, they end up interesting as an early stage of a known BIE.

It falls under the "Ity Bitty BIE" category.
