Is this even worth anyone's time to look at it. I know there are many in the market. I have many of these that look as uncirculated. 43, 43d and 43s. Is it common that the 43s and 43d are always shinier than the 43? The one here is a light 4 in 43.

Looks to be replated as many of these were. Reasons for this vary, but many believe it was to restore the original look.

I have a re-plated one that I purchased at the show I went to back in February. I would not think that that one would keep it's luster for that long, so it leads me to think that you have a re-plate also. I have seen many in the past ranging in price from $1 - $10. I paid $1.25 for mine.

These pennies are from my late fathers collection. I have a roll of 1943, 43d and 43s. I also have twenty five that are error coins. They were in original bank wrappers. I figured I would drop this information to you. I can verify that he had these when I was knee high to a grasshopper))Yes some of them had a small amount of rust around the edges. Most of them are very clean and shinny. Back in the early sixties they shouldn't have been re-coating them at that time, would they? I guess anything is possible.

If they were in original bank wrappers they could be
BU's and not reprocessed. One good way to tell if not replated
would be to look at the ouside outer edge of the coins. This is where you now want to see a slight touch of rust there arond the outer edge.
This part of the coin had no zinc coat when it was punched and is now the steel. Even a BU coin would develop some slight rust on it's outer edge. A reprocessed one would be covered with zinc. and would
not show rust areas. These are very small so look carefully. Of course there is always a chance that even a replated one could have gotten a scratch or some wear off of the zinc.

Thank you all for your information and thoughts. These are truly real coins. The d minted coins seem to be the least shine ones of three mints. I will re-roll them and stick them back in the desk for the grand kids to look at some day.
