I just found out about this today. NGC has a free population report no membership or subscription needed.

PCGS has pop reports but I believe you have to have one of their submission memberships to view it. I havent heard of ANACS having a pop report.

As I mentioned in another thread, a free membership access to Heritage's auction archives will give you access to PCGS and NGC pop reports. Heritage is, in my opinion, as good as all the rest of the coin data sources on the Internet combined.

You do need a membership to see the PCGS pops. on ther sit but you can look in the registry sets to figure out what you need to know. If you need to know something specific e-mail me and I'll look it up for you.

I was surprised how few they have graded for each VAM but I guess they just started attributing them. These are all for 1878
VAM.....61.....62.....63.....64.....total
70.........0........1.......4.......2.......7
79.........1........4.......0.......1.......6
80.........0........1.......1.......1.......3
81.........0........3.......2.......2.......7
82.........0........0.......4.......1.......5
83.........0........0.......2.......3.......5
84.........0........1.......4.......6......11

Thank You Very much! I appreciate you looking that up for me and thats exactly the information I was needing. They have been attributing the VAM-70 and 79 a long time because 70 is TOP100 and 79 is HOT50. I dont know how long they have been grading the rest of them but the reason for the low numbers is just because theres not alot of them out there. NGC has been grading the B1 reverse which consists of those VAMs for a couple of years and they have only graded a handfull also (when you consider how many 1878's are out there) and NONE have graded over MS-64PL

ANACS prints a POP report that is issued in a catalog format. See the link for specifics... Mike Ditto what superdave said, Heritage is awesome and free to look up tons of info, including POPS from NGC AND PCGS on specific coins in specific grades....

I went back and looked again and need to add some info to what I posted above. You see you can't just look up VAM pops like other coins. You have to get the PCGS coin # by finding one in the registry and then entering that # on the pop report page. So the populations I provided were all for those VAMS but did not include the PL and DMPL coins because they have diferent PCGS coin #'s.

VAM.....61.....62.....63.....64.....65.....total

70.........0........1.......4.......2.......0.....7
PL.........0........0.......1.......0.......0.....1
DMPL....0........0.......0.......0.......0.....0

79.........1........4.......0.......1.......0.....6
PL.........0........1.......1.......0.......0.....2
DMPL....0........0.......0.......0.......0.....0

80.........0........1.......1.......1.......0.....3
PL.........0........0.......2.......0.......0.....2
DMPL....0........1.......1.......0.......0.....2

81.........0........3.......2.......2.......0.....7
PL.........0........0.......2.......0.......0.....2
DMPL....0........0.......2.......0.......0.....2

82.........0........0.......4.......1.......0.....5
PL.........0........0.......0.......0.......0.....0
DMPL....0........0.......0.......1.......0.....1

83.........0........0.......2.......3.......0.....5
PL.........0........0.......0.......2.......1.....3
DMPL....0........0.......0.......0.......0.....0

84.........0........1.......4.......6.......0....11
PL.........0........0.......0.......0.......0.....0
DMPL....0........0.......1.......1.......0.....2

Thanks for the updated information. I just wanted to tell you guys that were saying go to Heritage for the information, well that doesn't work in this case because they have not sold but 2 of the type of coins I was looking for and there are 7 different VAM#'s I was wondering about. Heritage would be a good place for certain things I guess but definately doesn't apply in this case. Thanks for the suggestions though and thanks Joeyuk for posting the information it helps out alot.
