Hi all, Let me know your thoughts on this one. I thought its a nice example of a 1916-D. Maybe AU or high XF? Thanks for the comments. *** Moved by Staff moved to a more appropriate forum. ***

Always best to remove coins from 2x2 holders before taking photos. John1

Hard to see if there is any luster with these photos, so my guess would be AU-50.

Looks like some luster remains. Photos still aren't clear enough to see if there is much rubbing on the high points. Could be AU or MS, hard to say.

That is a beauty.
I would photo this coin using a little darker background.

the buff series are very challenging to grade. anyone looking at building a set of these need to do their homework and understand what was happening that year and mint. strike issues, planchet issues, die polishing, mis-matched dies all need to be taken into consideration
that said you new photo is very good. the obv is screaming MS to me, I'm not seeing anything there that says this coin was circulated so the reverse is really where an in depth knowledge of this date and mint comes into play and I'm not versed enough of the 16's to know what was going on. we used to have someone on here, can't remember their name, that would give an in depth assessment of the buffs and was extremely knowledgeable about them. havent seen them on here for quite a while so we need to go with what we have.
I think the reverse is a little weaker strike rather than rub from circulation. I'm going with MS on this one. my only concern is the lack of luster especially the reverse. this could be photos or could be toning. worst case AU58 best case MS63 imo
I'm seeing a slight green hue to the coin. could be lighting or photos but i'd suggest an acetone bath for this one.

i think your second set of photos are fine. if you want to try something you can try the following using your phone. it gives you the best possible shots
1. turn off flash 2. place coin on flat surface with indirect natural light. maybe a window sill in a cloudy day. Use a black or white background to avoid any reflective color 3. move phone about 3in from coin 4. zoom in using your fingers until the coin comes into focus and fills the cameras view finder. if your phone has a portrait selection use that and then press and hold on the coin in the view finder to AF lock it 5. hold phone steady. if you can't then place something on either side of the coin (like books) at that distance and lay phone between them. this will hold it steady and allow you to zoom and take the photo without any blurring
