Hi all. I found this one last week in a bank roll. 1988 RDV-006 That's what I think. Am I correct with this one? Thanks, Mike click photo to enlarge

Great die state! Most of the time they are in later die states and you can hardly make out the initials at all. Nice find Mike!

Great Find! 4 different dies are known for this transitional penny. Based on your pictures, it looks like your 1988P RDV 006 is from Die #4 One of the markers on the reverse are die scratches by the T of Cent which your coin has. Variety Vista has all the info for this under die varieties, RDV 006 1988P link. Congrats!

Seems more like this one? Die # 1 http://varietyvista.com/1988PRDV0064%20cent.htmADDEDI think I see where the confusion is? When you click on the different 4 listings you see a different set of numbers on the top of the screen than the button you press. The button says die 1, so I sticking to it.

Hi Coop: Look directly across from the Coneca Symbol- it is DIE 4 which has the scratch by the T of cent- not DIE 1. It is very confusing the way they have it listed because as you click on each RDV 006 die # below this, it changes the DESIGN # above. In this case its #4- when you click on the RDV 006 button below this, it changes the DESIGN # above from 1 to 2 to 3 to 4 etc but the correct die # that the pictures pertain to is listed above it. Based on this, mikep's coin is Die #4 not Die #1 and I'm sticking to it also (LOL)

Check again. I think there is a glitch on the screen and the buttons. Take a second look. Click the button on the right to die # 1. The screen says die 4.

Hi coop: Its not a glitch, its the way it's been set up, look again- its showing Die #4 as the Design Variety above- if you want to see Die # 1 you click the RDV 006 Die 1 button below and it takes you to that die with pictures etc. *Notice- when it takes you to Die #1 it says rdv-006 Die #2 below- if you want to see Die #2 you click on that button and it takes you to the second Die, but below it's now saying RDV 006 #3. Click on RDV 006 Die 3 and it takes you to die 3 but now it says RDV -006 die #4 below. When I found my 1988P RDV 006 Die #2, it took me a while to figure it out also as to what pictures pertained to what. A little confusing at best.

Thanks guys. OK now I'm really confused here. I thought there was only one die for this rdv. So if there's 4 dies, aren't there possibly millions of these guys out there?

Mike: It appears that 4 different dies have been found thus far. There is always hope of finding a new one. It would be interesting to see if the dies showed up on both 88 & 89 coins that had the same markers? The images of yours and Chucksters give new hope to me for these. If the 1988 has a RDV-006, it should be very obvious.

Could you guys give me a brief description what I should be looking for on the 1988? I understand what is going on but from reading but it is not clear to me how the initials differ and which one is transitional.

Check the reverse of the 1988 cents and the 1989 Cents. During the 1988 year they started with the new reverse 006 that is different on the FG than the 1988 normally had. The FG looks like the 1989 but are on 1988 Cents. 4 dies from Philly, one from Denver know so far. I didn't realize they were that strikingly different. If your not sure, then it isn't. Images help with the search. Just compare the two years FG to know what to look for.
