Every year, we get 2-3 folks who say nthat they have found a '36 dot, and we have to go over the story again. The dot was PLACED in the die in a specific location by the Mint themselves. The dot was put on the pennies as an interim measure due to George V death and, supposedly, Edward to assume the throne, but he got caught up in the marriage problems with Wallace Simpson and he abdicated the throne, so George VI took over. The dot was also put on the dimes and quarters and issued for circulation. Supposedly, 600+ thousand cents were minted, but only a few (4-5) specimen cents have been located or found. The remainder of the copper cents, again supposedly, were melted and new dies made with the new monarch. Many dimes and quarters are found with the specifically-placed dots, but only the handful of specimen strikes have been found.
Your coin has the dot in a different location from the mint-applied ones. Yours is similar to others that have shown up on this and other sites, with the "dot" in a different place, most due to die chips. The coin being so valuable, many fakes have shown up and I think that is what you have. We used to have one member here who was always finding a new "dot", and I think some years he would find 3-4 "dot" coins that weren't. I forget his name, but old-timers on here will remember him. "Nuf said ... the only '36 dots cents are specimens, not circulation strikes.
