So awesome - big congrats in order.

Will this be your 500th post giveaway?

Funny! Not as a giveaway. But to be honest, the thought did cross my mind that just by having this coin in a 'collection'. I could probably find a buyer who would buy all everyting including non-valuable and hard to sell items that I don't have the bandwidth to offload slowly on ebay and other less popular sites.

That coin is lovely. Sorry but when I look at it I see Greatcollections Hot List flames then a check then a concrete poured slab and a 16 x 23 garage with sink and toilet. I have quite a methodical imagination. Congratulations on one furturious find!

Unbelievable stroke of luck! Your example is in much better shape, albeit slightly less rare, than this 1983-D bronze specimen, which sold for $17,625 about 7 years ago.

I brought it to a coin show and people were pretty unphased by it which was a little surprising.

One thought this error is not really uncommon and would likely drop in value due to spikes in new examples being found.

And another person said outside of an auction house I would be lucky to get over $5k.

I'm new to coin shows.so not sure if this is the normal response to seeing one of these graded.

A coin show doesn't seem like the right venue to get value opinions on a rare mint error coin. That's the purview of experts like Jon Sullivan and Mike Diamond. You wouldn't take a unique Tiffany sapphire necklace to a jewelry show and expect to get an accurate appraisal.

@JobIII.... Well, I had a dealership tell me after my oil change.... that I needed new front shocks because both were leaking & both Control Arms were broken. The repair list totaled over $5,000. I proceeded to tell them.... "Both shocks were replaced 6 months ago & if my Control Arms were broken, I wouldn't be able to steer my vehicle."

Moral: Scammers erroneously assume that other people are just suckers & will just believe anything they are told. Don't be a sucker.

Bah, many dealers are ignorant. I've tried to educate many over the years. Like one guy selling PMD cents as "errors", I explained to him in detail why they were not error coins. As I walked away, I heard him say "they are still errors".

Seems like the only error there was that dealer.

Another one was found and graded MS65RD (auction here: https://www.greatcollections.com/Co...ce=coinweek)

Just the current best graded version to date. This auction should be fun to watch as it nears the end. Calling all auction bidding pros :D
