This dime is very odd. I don't know the technical terminology but could someone please explaine why the outer ring is two toned, has no ridges, and is much thicker then average dime. Any information would be appreciated. Also does it have value beyond .10.

and
Or it was done on poupous with a rolling type machine. It is two toned because the coin is a copper nickel clad coin. The reeds are smooth because of the damage that occurred from the dryer or being spooned or from the rolling machine. Either way it is PMD and not an error with only face value.

Not worth more than 10 cents but a cool conversation piece.

Agree! Folks try to turn coins into a ring by hammering the edge around, though usually they
use silver coins....

My vote is intentional mechanical damage. I think a dime is too small to make into a ring and a clad coin is harder to spoon than a silver coin.

To CCF! It's a Dryer Coin or a "spooned coin". Either way, it's just PMD. Worth 10 cents.

Sometimes people do things just to do them. Spooned.

I will answer you:

1. If you look at the design of the coin, is OK. in dryer will have R or O marks.

2. The rim it is high. No doubt of this and also no reeds. Here it is the Hit. The coin was hit laterally in an non mechanical facion. We can see the rims are deformated as hit laterally was.

3. Say spooned coins mean in numismatic: Hit laterally by any meanings. Could be various tools or etc. Generic Spooned (hit laterally)

The OPs coin is EXACTLY what happens when it's stuck in the FIN of a commercial dryer. In the FIN the coin CANNOT tumble. The obverse and reverse are NOT banged around. Only the EDGE is constantly banged.

Common sense should tell you dime rings would only fit infants. Maybe.

Maybe in your native language but not in English. Spooned means spooned, tapped with a spoon. Dryer means dryer.

If the coin was "stuck" as you say in the fin, how does it rotate so that all of the edge is evenly smashed smooth? If it was stuck in the fin, only one spot on the edge would be wore smooth. In your scenario it's stuck but still rotates. And yes spooned is a catch all for using anything to do the job.

So you don't think a dime will roll around to the front and back of the fin? So you think a dime will stay in one very specific spot and would only damage 2 spots on the rim? C'mon, that's quite silly....

Anything that looks like this can be randomly called a spooned coin no matter what happened to it for real. Got it.
