The hole goes all the way through. Was wondering what may have caused this and because it is behind Lincolns ear does it add to the value.

Someone may have hammered a nail in it. Now the zinc is coming through and soon it will rot the coin into dust. It is a damaged coin and has no extra value. In 1982 zinc was added to copper when exposed to moister or air it will begin to rot.

It's not an error and it has no value. It's a nasty looking case of zinc rot. Simply a damaged coin.
