Hi all, I'm trying to figure out which, if any, RPM this 1951 S Franklin half is. The mint mark looks similar to FS-501, but I don't see the characteristic die scratches for that variety, although, maybe that can be due to a pretty soft strike? It also looks similar to WRPM-007 on doubleddie.com, but I'm not sure. Any thoughts are appreciated, thanks in advance!

Definitely not FS-501, the mm location is off, yours is lower. It's hard to tell what you have going on, with the shadows and grainy pics. Not sure if this is an RPM at all at this point.

Well it looks interesting inside the upper curve. Can you get us a better image?

Quote:Reminds me quite a bit of the reappearing 1974-S punch from the 1940s and 1950s. http://www.varietyvista.com/Mystery...%20Punch.htm It is but did not want to bring that into the mix until we could see a clear pic of the mint mark. Plus, most pay not attention when I do, you are probably the first.

But with my eyesight currently failing (I have a cloudiness forming over my lenses and have to wait until it get bad enough (Eye Doc's Words) in order to have my eyes lasered to clear it up. So for now I 'skim the posts to get enough info to reply - yes, I miss a lot of information, but it is much less strain on my eyes. I have to wait until at least April before anything can be done to my eyes.

Thanks for trying again but they are still very grainy. The best I can tell, it is just the worn out punch that Brandmeister gave you the link to. At this point, the punch was nine years old and probably showing its age. You can take it to coin shows and would like to hear what they say but most of those folks are probably not familiar with the recent study. My personal opinion, there is not RPM here and is absolutely not FS-501, you need to understand the mm placement is not even close, much less not showing the RPM characteristics.

Yeah, I hadn't considered the MM placement before it was mentioned, that's a good tip. Thanks for taking a look.
