I was wondering if it would be worth the effort if as many as possible members of CCF would email the US mint and complain about the way that they are distributing the 2009 cents? Would it make a difference? In our favor? We should agree on a certain day that we ALL email the mint at the same time . Your opinions please. John1

I DON'T THINK THAT IT WOULD MAKE .02 CENTS WORTH OF DIFFERENCE !...... Govt. beauracracies will NEVER respond to the people in a timely way....it's a self serving enterprise and we're just lambs waiting for the food to be delivered......

Quote: email the US mint and complain about the way that they are distributing the 2009 cents? Your complaint would fall on deaf ears because the US Mint has no responsibility to distribute coinage, only to produce it. The Treasury and Federal Reserve distribute the money supply and attempt to maintain a cash supply that can be handled by the economy at the time. Economy humming along- greater demand for money supply. Economy dragging along- lower demand for money supply. Right now, there are more than enough previously produced cents on hand to satisfy economic demand. 2009 mintages for all denominations have plummeted across the board. If the US Mint were not required by act of Congress to produce these new design Lincoln cents, then the Mint might not have produced any cents in 2009 to this point, that is how low demand is. Before you say "forget about low economic demand, what about collectors?", the Treasury/Fed have no responsibility to collectors, only the economy as a whole. The Fed probably should have created a new coin ordering window like they did with the State Quarters and Presidential dollars. Normally, whatever is on hand it what is shipped out when a bank places an order for coins. However, they could specifically request new coinage during a set period of time(2-4 weeks?) around the release date for the quarters and dollars. This probably would have supplied collectors with all the cents they wanted.

If the Fed only had a responsibility to the economy, and not to other interest groups, such as collectors they would not produce any 1 cents ever again.

I see a couple of potential rarities this year, especially from the Denver Mint.

...and there it will be properly ignored, unless you have some big lobby money to back it up!

I got 2 2009 lincoln cents at the grocery store today in my change. No mintmarks but they are AU50+.
I'm still waiting on my mint set order, subscription, hope against hope, whatever. I did get my Presidential proofs last month. Guess I should just be quiet.

I too have gotten half a dozen in change. So I have hit every bank in the town we live in, the town where the wife works, and in the town where I work. And still none to be had at the banks! So where I ask are they coming from? The teller that saves half rolls for me said she spoke with the brinks guys and they told her that they have had several boxes on the truck. They are specially marked to identify them as the log cabin cents. None have been dropped in this area but still they are here in very minute quantities.

The only way to get more into circulation would be if every person went and ordered $50 of cents from the bank and held onto them for 2 months.
