Any clues on what could cause such extreme fubar on the obverse? Especially with the reverse still semi kinda decent.? This one's got me puzzled

There may be a little alloy inconsistency showing on the reverse, but I agree that the obverse looks like all damage to me. Some of it is mechanical damage, but there does seem to be another element to it--maybe chemical damage too?
