I took this quarter to a couple of local coin shops and both said it did NOT suffer from a minting error, but rather was damaged (or defaced) sometime after it left the mint.

What say you?

to the CCF These coins are sanded on a belt sander. The center is where it pivoted. We see a lot of these coins here.
