It's halfway there already! Bought it for my 7070, not the slab. Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

As you transfer it, you'll need a bowl to catch all that dripping luster!

What a GREAT looking Buffalo! are you just going to set it free, or have it re-holdered?

Slab grade AU Details - Run Over
Hard to read between the lines but I'm guessing you bought it like that?

To be clear, you bought it cracked like this, and are now going to finish the job?

Yes, I bought it like that to put in my 7070. Didn't have a nice Type II, and I won't feel bad about cracking it out. It's not worth getting re-holdered.

Thank you for the compliments, everyone! I wish I knew how the slab got this way and what the owner said when it happened.

that's what I would do, too. a nice one to set free, for sure, and nice addition to a 7070. well done.

Not being a Buffalo nickel person... talk about a coin that was massively saved straight from the mint! NGC has 26,687 graded MS66 and PCGS has 33,274. The slab is no great loss.
