What grade would you give this?

I'll say AU-58.

Nice coin, looks AU-58 to me also. Might be some green starting so an Acetone bath might be in order.

Is there any alternative that would work just as well?

Can't see any wear in these images, but MS seems out of the question.

Yeah, I agree with that CF. I'm not looking for an MS, although that would be nice.

Even patina.

I also think AU-58.

Wouldn't acetone destroy the fine details?

sel_69l...this is common for these. just not fully struck so when you are in the market for one I always go for the strong shield.

there is wear on this coin so imo it was circulated.
mid AU - i'll call it AU55 however the original skin has been removed. I can't get it to 58 without the original surfaces. someone attempted to remove the PVC on the coin quite a while ago. most likely the coin will not grade straight.

the answer is no. pure acetone will only remove organic matter. it will not damage the coin nor will it degrade the coin. the acetone we are speaking of is not nail polish remover. 100% acetone would be purchased at any hardware store and if you do a search here folks explain how to use it.

it is a nice coin but the PVC on this coin needs remediated

i found one thread on acetone in the coin forum topic that might help

Slight tinge of green under and to the left of the date, - most probably inorganic.
