$450. The main reason for this purchase was for the smooth and velvety surfaces which are unusual for the imported planchets that traversed the rough waters of the Atlantic in barrels located inside damp and sometimes waterlogged ship cargo holds. The classic head cent coinage normally comes with corroded metal surfaces, but this one seems to be one of the finer survivors. The clear overdate is another bonus. The line over the bow in the wreath appears to be some debris. Thoughts? Thanks!

Just a little roughness most noticeably at the top reverse. Better than most.

VF20.

NS, this is a beauty. I love the Classic Head LC's. so much character and you are correct about the planchet. when you find one as clean as this snatch it up. especially at this grade

solid VF20 really close to 25. even at VF20 you killed it on price. I don't slab too many coins nor recommend it but this is one I would consider. I'm looking at the PCGS slabbed VF20 coins and yours is right there. looks like they hammered in the $900 range.

PCGS is calling 1500 surviving with an R4.8. take that with a grain of salt as they have no idea how many are raw in collectors hands but just gives you some idea

I've had bad luck getting these coins to straight grade at PCGS/NGC. They tend to slap "environmental damage" labels on them willy-nilly, paying little heed to the planchet issues common for the type.

Beautiful coin! I'd say VF-25. Not sure about sending it for grading—I'd be really annoyed if this came back in a details holder for ED.

I've seen the same issues that paralyse noted that he had bad luck getting these coins to straight grade at PCGS/NGC. I don't think the graders are aware or trained on individual series and the issues prior to and during striking. its basically the same issue that they have with bust half strikes. if they are going to assign grades on these coins you would think they would have a good knowledge base on the series they are grading.

I'm not seeing anything here that would detail the coin but the lighting is a little dark and who knows what that they look at.

This also came in. Last pictures were washed out in too much light. Thought these look more like the color of the actual coin. Thoughts? Thanks!

Quite a bit more roughness than originally visible. It is still a nice VF20, but will not straight grade at PCGS or NGC in my opinion. I think it's a nice example, regardless.
