Hello everyone; Happy new year and I hope this year is better for everyone! I don't know if anyone would care but this is my story and this is what happened.I was going thru my brothers old comic books, he just died a month ago so I inherited them .And something strange happened that was really weird. There was one comic book that had a impression of a coin in it and sure enough there was a coin in it . This coin was the same year as the comic book really strange but another thing it had red all over this coin. What I figured it was just the clad coming off "right" or just paint. I thought it was interesting enough so I checked it out more with the computer by enlarging it "right". So what I saw was very interesting ,a mint mark that looks like it was moved I was wondering if this is a error or could it just be moved by wear? I was just throwing it out their and see your opinions ? The A coin is the normal coin the B coin is the copper one. Thanks for listening Dan

Back then MM's were placed manually and locations varied - as long at it is over the date, it is fine.

Mintmarks of that era were sometimes repunched, so there can be some variation in position. As for the color, it's likely environmental damage. A soak in pure acetone may remove the redness.

Don't think clad coming off the coin, more like paint, or even comic book ink being transferred onto the coin surface.

The mint mark has been explained above, the red could have been placed there by a number of ways. Maybe it was painted with nail polish, in a painters tool box ect... Point is, it is just paint so it is a spender.

you can soak it overnight in a sealed glass container to soften the paint better.

Hello everyone again I tried soaking it in acetone over night like Dearborn suggested . And here's what I got ,you be the judge is it paint or is it something else . I think you can see there's still a couple silver spots shinning through the orange that is new .Here's a before and after looks of the back and front of the coin. I added a few new looks of this coin found in the comic book .The face of the coin wasn't touching the paint in the comic book the reverse was. If the paint went through the coin that would be crazy !! Here's also a side angle showing the clad.

Based on the outline, the coin that left the impression in the comic book was a Lincoln Memorial cent, not a dime. Sorry about your brother.

Thank you Brand Meister I would not have noticed that. I don't know what the odds for finding a two coins in comic books I just happened to pick this out of a thousand comic books who figures. By the way I'm still looking for the penny. Im pretty sure this is that comic book ,the impression is not very good.
