I just received a package with my order. I bought some American coins. The main coin for which I made this whole purchase turned out to be with a big defect. There was nothing visible on the seller's scan, except for this yellow spot. Now I have a question, what is it and can it be washed? I have already written to the seller and am waiting for a response.

The usual suggestion is an Acetone rinse, but that's probably not coming off.

That's flat out silly hiding that spotting.

You can dip it.

It's an $8 coin either way.

Unless you already have it, the dip will cost more that the coin is worth.

I agree.

Probably so, but it is something you would buy to use on the regular. If this is a one time event, it would not be worth it.

Best case is you get a refund and return shipping does not consume it.

Were you looking specifically for the 71-S silver coin? Or just a silver Ike dollar of any date?

That black is never good, more than likely it's the terminal state of corrosion and cannot be removed without damaging the coin.

That looks for all the world like actual, biological mould. Which ought to be impossible on a silver coin.

Try to get a refund, if you can.

So far, I haven't done anything with this coin. I didn't even try to wash it with soap and water. I don't want to do anything until the seller responds to me.

I think I have acetone at home. But I repeat. I don't want to influence the coins in any way so as not to harm her once again.

I found it on the seller's page. I didn't have a goal to buy exactly 71-S. I thought buying an Eisenhower silver dollar would be great. By the way, I paid 1716 rubles ($18.85) for it.

Acetone is not dip. When we say dip, we mean using an acid thiourea solution (e-Z-est). This will strip off the layer of "bad" silver.

Uptade. The seller agreed to the return of the goods. I've already sent him the coin back and now I'm waiting to get my money back.
